Sodium Chloride samples collected at the Compañía Minera Cordillera salt mine in the Tarapacá Region, Chile. This is the salt mine that currently supplies the Boston metropolitan area with de-icing road salt. The salt is 99.9% pure sodium chloride, as evidenced by is squared crystalline structure. This salt was exhibited as part of a multi-media installation entitled “Salt Mountain” that explored the importation journey and process of Boston’s road salt.
